Foundation Phase Grade R

Grade R is an exciting and foundational year for our young learners. We aim to prepare children for their future schooling by developing their social, emotional, and cognitive skills in a nurturing environment.

In Grade R, we focus on:

  • ⁠Language Development: Enhancing vocabulary, storytelling, and basic literacy skills through fun activities and interactive reading sessions.
  • Numeracy Skills: Introducing basic math concepts, including counting, shapes, and simple problem-solving through games and hands-on activities.

Grade 7 Students Shine at the Regional Science Expo

On Saturday, 27 July, our Grade 7 students showcased their hard work at the Regional Round of the Eskom Science Expo. They set up their projects for exhibition and participated in engaging science workshops while judges reviewed their work. Later, they confidently presented their projects to the panel.

At the prize-giving ceremony, we were thrilled to see the following learners receive Merit Awards:

  • Motheo Ntloko and Hlanganani Nqweniso for Does Colour Make Food Increase Appetite?
  • Sivuyisiwe Mantewu and Abenathi Mxube for Does Music Affect the Growth of Plants?

Litalethu Beyi, Qhawe Mqeke, and Chulumanco Gadla were awarded participation certificates. We are incredibly proud of their dedication and effort. Well done, Grade 7s!

Quiz Success

On Monday, 2nd September, six of our talented Grade 7 learners participated in the Phendulani Literacy Quiz, held at Kingswood Junior School. This well-organized competition took place over two terms, during which our students were challenged to read a collection of storybooks, primarily authored by South African writers. As a group, they dedicated themselves to preparing for the quiz with teamwork and determination.

The learners who proudly represented Oatlands were Iminathi Gysman, Akhanani Mngcambe, Reezhan Kohl, Sivuyisiwe Mantewu, Bulumko Nyamanda, and Ikhanyile Same. Their hard work and commitment shone through as they made our school proud, with each student earning two storybooks to take home as a reward for their efforts.

Olympiads

Conquesta Academic Olympiads are external Olympiads offered to our learners.

They are offered annually, where our learners can challenge themselves on various subjects. These are written as multiple-choice question papers. All learners are encouraged to take on this challenge regardless of academic performance.

Learners are rewarded with a beautiful colour certificate.
