Community Fitness: Colour Run
On March 18th, 2024, Oatlands Preparatory School’s newly formed Parent Teacher Association (PTA) hosted its first-ever Colour Run, transforming the school grounds into a kaleidoscope of joy and excitement. This vibrant event not only brought together students, parents, and community members but also served as a successful fundraiser for the school.
The Birth of a New Tradition
The Colour Run marked the debut event for the recently established PTA, led by Chairperson Mrs. Denshie Kohl and Secretary Ms. Georgia Goliath. Their initiative and hard work set the stage for what promises to be an annual celebration of school spirit and community engagement.
A Day of Fun and Fitness
Participants of all ages took to the course, navigating through stations where they were showered with colorful powder. The air was filled with laughter and cheers as runners emerged from each color station more vibrant than before. The event not only promoted physical activity but also fostered a sense of camaraderie among participants.
Community Support Makes a Difference
The success of the Colour Run was largely due to the overwhelming support from the Oatlands community. Parents generously donated money, food, and time to ensure the event ran smoothly. Local businesses also stepped up, with PnP providing a water table and Kesentri Govender supplying bibs for the marshals.
The inaugural Colour Run proved to be a financial success, raising an impressive R7,700.00. This money will be put to good use, upgrading the Foundation Phase playground and directly benefiting the youngest members of the Oatlands Preparatory School community.
A Word of Thanks
The PTA extends heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed to the event’s success. From the parents who volunteered their time and resources to the local sponsors who provided essential support, every contribution played a crucial role in making the day memorable.
As Oatlands Preparatory School looks to the future, events like the Colour Run demonstrate the power of community involvement in enhancing the educational experience. The PTA’s successful debut sets a promising precedent for future initiatives and fundraisers. The Colour Run was more than just a fundraiser; it was a celebration of school spirit, community unity, and the joy of coming together for a common cause. As the colorful dust settles, Oatlands Preparatory School looks forward to many more such events that bring color, excitement, and support to the educational journey of its students.
