“Sport teaches you character, teaches you to play by the rules, it teaches you to know what it feels like to win and lose - it teaches you about life.”
At Oatlands Preparatory School, sports are deeply embedded in our tradition and play a crucial role in every child’s comprehensive development. We are committed to creating a fun and enjoyable environment where students can develop teamwork, endurance, and strong relationships. We also recognize that sports are instrumental in helping students build lasting social skills and gain valuable life experiences.
Oatlands Preparatory School Sports
We offer a diverse range of sports, including cricket, rugby, basketball, hockey, soccer, athletics, and netball. Our Physical Education program seamlessly integrates sports into the school day, encouraging every student to get involved. While participation in at least one sport each season—summer and winter—is not mandatory, we inspire all learners to participate each season.
We are committed to enhancing our sports program through active participation in various clinics and festivals. Our U9 cricket and rugby teams regularly join mini-rugby and mini-cricket festivals, immersing our young athletes in the vibrant culture of sports from an early age. This approach not only nurtures their skills but also fosters a strong and growing school sports community.
Our U13 rugby boys and U13 netball girls take part in the annual P.J Frans Erasmus tournament where they get to compete against different schools testing their skills and ability to compete against the top schools.
In 2024, our U13 rugby boys were fortunate enough to participate in the Graeme College Rugby Day where they were able to get tested physically and mentally. They were up against stronger opponents, but the boys showed pure guts and determination.
A message from our Head of Sport:
“I believe that sport promotes physical and mental well-being, builds confidence and develops skills that will serve well throughout their lives. Sport fosters teamwork, discipline and resilience in our learners. Through sport, our students learn valuable lessons in sportsmanship and camaraderie, shaping them into well-rounded, healthy individuals.”

Oatlands Preparatory School Arts
Our Grade 1 learners hosted their much-anticipated Art Exhibition this September 2024 to raise funds for much-needed resources for our classrooms. And what a wonderful evening it was! The excitement on the parents' faces as they admired their children’s creative masterpieces was truly heart-warming.
The parents' creativity was also showcased as there was an interactive art piece they collaborated on. A big thank you to all the parents for their incredible support — we couldn't have done it without you!
